| My 1st Day at Islamabad |
DAY ONE
October 8th was our first day of training. We discussed the scheduled of this training. Our trainer Asif Iqbal asked the participant whether they want something to be excluded or included in the schedule; everyone was pretty convinced with the contents.
We started our learning by a power point presentation of what is web journalism all about we asked questions about this which were answered. Later we discussed different examples of this with our trainer.
We also learnt the ethics of cyber journalism. We discussed what is accuracy, honesty, copy right, plagiarism, sourcing, why and how not to distort photos and videos, difference between advertising and information, label, opinion, privacy, balance and fair play, juvenile and victims of sex crimes, criminal suspects, corrections, independence, linking decisions, principles and values etc. the trainer discussed each point with the participant and gave suitable examples. We were also guided to download cyber-crime law code from Supreme Court of Pakistan’s website.
We were also explained how to download and use Skype. We learnt how to add information, make privacy setting, and add contacts to Skype and how to integrate it with Facebook, how to share screen and have conference call.
We also learnt about the web layout, what is color theme, which colors are commonly used in web designing and lay out, we learnt what is header, banner, top navigation, side navigation, how the buttons varies according to size, we also learnt what are different tabs and how they help in utilizing same space for huge information. We also learnt what is grid and how many columns are conventionally used in web layout. We saw different web layouts from New York Times and other main news websites as examples. The differences in design were discussed in detail.
At last i would like to say that it was wonderful day and i enjoyed alot as well with Mr.Adil and Asif Both...
DAY TWO
on October 09-10-2012 we discussed
Ø How to work in note pad?
Ø Usage of HTML on note pad.
Ø Pictures formats, JPG-PNG-GIF
Ø how to place picture on HTML
Ø Pictures arrangement Left Right Centre etc.
Ø How to place color scheme on HTML
Ø How to place text on HTML
Ø How to connect links in pages on HTML
Ø At last we made Audio files for HTML
DAY THIRD
On 10th of October we discussed,The day began with the feedback session of 2nd day. We presented our html pages we developed as an assignment.What we did are as under....
Ø We created our own blogs
Ø My blog was cmshu.blogspot.com
Ø We discussed different properties of blogs
Ø Labels, schedules, permalink, locations and options
Ø Posts, Pages, Comments, States, earnings, layout, Templates and settings.
Ø I also learnt about the other social media tools used for story writing, presentations and networking like tumblr, google+, storify, vuvox and prezi.
Ø Making of Facebook Pages I made my own Facebook page named as online journalism.
DAY FOURTH
On 11th of October we discussed two main topics………………

Ø Adobe Photoshop and Irfan View ( picture viewer and modifier)
Ø Adobe Photoshop:-
In Photoshop we discussed its properties, first of all we learnt from our instructor how to install adobe Photoshop in the system. We studied in detail about RGB colors and how color coding is used in HTML. We learnt about graphics its resolution size and color its sharpness, brightness and color balancing and color treatment. How to apply effects on pictures. We downloaded some pictures from internet our instructo Mr.Adil tells us put effects on those pictures before that he practice in front of us on multimedia projector. Introduction to digital graphics and over view of pixels was a new information for me.
Ø irfan view:- (Picture viewer and modifier)
Resampling and resizing in irfan view was a new experience for all of us, we also learnt that
At a time we can resize and resample the entire selected picture in irfan view. It is amazing software which I have ever seen before.
DAY FIVE
On 12th October we started our 5th day session with the feedback of 4th day session. We receive Mr. Michael Mcauliffe “resident Journalism advisor Internew Pakistan” in our Training session Mr.Michael tells us about the importance of digital training at Islamabad.Hel talked to all the participants in the training and introduced himself, everyone was requested to introduce himself as well. Than as usual we started our digital TOT. we started installation of dreamweaver in our laptops. It is new software for me. we learnt how to link pages in dreanweaver. Today we have to learn about its properties. What is dreamweaver and what are its utilities. The 5th day of our training was a hectic day because we ended the session at 6:00 P:M. at the end our trainers surprised us that they are going to give us the assignments that to make our own pages on dreamweaver.
Its my first assignment during Digital TOT Training and i edited my sons Picture in Adobe Photoshop, Thanx to my instructures Mr.Adil and Mr.Asif who told me how to work in Adobe and how to upload it on my Blog.Thanx All who looked at it and i need your comments please.............
DAY SIX
On Monday 15th of
October we started our day from the recall of last week’s activities. First of
all we gave the feedback of the last 5th day TOT. Our instructors
Mr.Asif and Mr.Adil both were excited that all have done their assignments
which they gave them for the weekend. All presented their html web pages made
in Dreamweaver. There were some quires about the Dreamweaver’s Mr.Adil
explained us about them that how to insert pictures in html after edited in
Irfan view. How to do the batch conversion and convert pictures into resize and
resample them. Than we were given a software “file zila” for uploading our web
pages on the servers. We practiced this software and upload FTP file on it with
adding the host address, username and password. After this we uploaded our HTML
pages on internews website. We also learnt that always upload it to public
html, always make index. The day ended with the vote of thanks………………………
On Tuesday 16 of October we started our day from the feedback. The
7th day of our training we installed XAMP and word press files on our laptops. During Installation of XAMP, some of our colleges had a problem as their APACHE file
wasn’t running which made us learn that the port that XAMP always uses is 80
and during my Installation it was occupied by the Skype. I learnt that it’s
essential to have closed all other application before running the XAMP. The
problem was solved soon as the Skype was closed. We were told that XAMP is the software which is used to turn
your machine to serve as server to host a word press website from our machine
or otherwise you can utilize some Host server to provide you space.We also learnt about the different Data base like My SQL, Oracle
Access, MS SQL and learnt that which one is free and which one should be
purchased.In order to have the sense of Users and database, we were shown
the C panel of our university websites and were shown what the role of Admin,
subscriber and contributor is and were also shown how we can make users and
database, assign mail addresses, cheek different columns and comments etc. from
PHP my admin, if the dashboard is not working and we have to make changes. We also learnt to put our web files in htdocs folder in drive C
of our XAMP folder and www folder if we are using WMP. We renamed d tot our
word press folder and placed it in htdocs folder.We later had data base for our every user at our own university
website and we were taught how to develop theme with word press. We were guided
how to select theme, appearance, devise categories and make multiple menus. We were given assignment to select and update a theme having
multiple menus at the end of session.
DAY EIGHT
On 17th of October the day started as usual from the feedback. The day started with the assignments. We presented our assignments but there was confusion regarding our assignments that was about the themes which we selected for our web pages for wordpress. We selected the theme “Admirer” as it has multiple menus. Later we learnt that how to set layout and its colors. We also learnt about embedding video in our pages, how to make gallery and add pictures in it. We also learnt how to set feature image. We also learnt how to set thumbnail for gallery.We also learnt how to have Audio plugin by downloading different plugins. We also downloaded easy gallery, category excluder and face book widget. At the end our Instructur Mr. Asif told us that tommorow we are going to serena hotel to attend the photo exhibition arranged by Internews.

DAY NINE
On 18th of October 2012 we went to serena hotel as told by our Instructor Mr.Asif to attend the photo exhibition jointly arranged by Internews and National Geographic. We met different participants who came here to exhibit their photos at serena hotel. They also brought their families and friends to attend the photo exhibition. Internews arranged vans to take us to serena hotel. When we reached there we saw different pictures of the participants. The work they have done was marvelous. Than formal session started when the chief guest arrived at serena hotel. We were told that this joint photo exhibition was arranged by National Geographic’s and internews for FATA students and they were trained earlier about the technical skills of photography. They were given assignments to capture the pictures from their area. The chief of the Internews welcomed the guest and USAID director for Pakistan to attend the photo exhibition. At last we enjoyed a lot their as it was an interesting trip there we learnt so many things as well that how they took photos and used their pictures in photoshop. It was good day.
DAY TEN LAST DAY
This was the last day of out training. Most of the things
were revised. The day, however started with the detailed feedback of the
previous day. All the participants gave their comments and asked if there was
anything confusing. We were also provided two sets of questionnaire to answer.
The questions were asked to evaluate our level of understanding of the the
things discussed throghout the ToT. We were also asked to rate the overall
significance of the training. All the participants also recorded video
interviews among themselves which were played on the big screen too. It was
enjoying too. In the end all the attendees of the trianing shared their
feeelings and experiences of the training. All thanked Asif Iqbal and Adil for
being so kind and cooperative throughout the training.
