The Campus Observer team had an opportunity of sitting with renowned scholar and Head Department of Genetics, Hazara University Mansehra, Prof. Dr.
Habib Ahmad. The team was consisted of Waleed Gul, Rizwan Ahmed, Ali Tanoli, and Umer Faizan. He answered many questions raised during the interview. Following is the response to the questions posed by the reporters.
Q. Tell us about your educational and family background?
A. I was born in an educated family and my native town is “Matta”, which is situated in Swat. I received my earlier education up to FSc from Jahnzeb College .
Afterwards I went to Peshawar University and completed my BSc (Botany) and MPhil fromUniversity of Peshawar . In 2001 I did my PhD from University of Punjab .
Q. Tell us about your childhood?
A. I was a little bit naughty according to my teachers. I was a bright student in my childhood. I was always a straightforward child.
Q. What is your favourite food?
A. I like fruits and rice. However, I like everything.
Q. What is your favourite sport?
A. I am good at volleyball.
Q. What do you do in your spare time?
A. Well, I study books whenever I get some spare time. I try to give as much time to my family as possible. I take my family on trips.
Q. Which personality inspires you a lot, why?
A. My favourite personality is king of Swat “Mian Gul Abdul Wadood”; I am very much moved by his efforts to bring reform in the valley of swat. Honestly speaking he is the main personality who worked for the betterment of our area. He changed the minds of the people in the true sense.
Q. Would you like to share something about your family life?
A. Yes I have six children, five daughters and one son. All of them are studying. I want them to excel in their educational careers.
Q. What was your ambition in life as a student?
A. As a student my ambition was to enter into the profession of teaching. My perception was that this is the only field in which I can contribute my part to the nation and serve my country. Due to my inquisitiveness in medical field, I had completed my major study in genetics subject. As a student I was very dedicated to my work. I set short goals for myself and always tried to achieve them with ease.
Q. How do you see the future of Hazara University ?
A. This institution is going to be one of the leading Universities of Pakistan. When I joined HU in 2005, there were about 11 faculty members and 164 students but today we have more than 9,000 students and around 500 faculty members.
Q. How can educational institutions bring a positive change in Pakistan ?
A. Education plays important role in the socio-economic development of the country. Every individual should contribute to the development of the country. I should play my role as a teacher, students should play their role.
Q. What is your opinion about The Campus Observer?
A. Honestly speaking when I came to know about “The Campus Observer”, I was very happy. I heard statements about the objectives behind campus observer’s publication. I am sure that it is the ideal platform to bridge communication gap between the faculty, the students and the administration. You people are doing great job. Best wishes for “The Campus Observer”
Message for the readers:
For the students my message is that you should take your responsibilities as a useful member of the society. Spend your time for what you are here. Have dreams and then work hard to realize your dreams. In order to materialize what to dreamt here in the University. If you have firm belief in all mighty Allah and work hard, no doubt you will achieve your goals. You are the people who would certainly not only replace us but to play the leadership role for society and nation. Be confident, respectful and task oriented.
